The Sessions House was built in 1692 is the oldest building still standing in Yorktown. It was built by Thomas Sessions. It was used as the Union's local headquarters during General George McClellan's Peninsula Campaign of the Civil War. It has been visited by 5 US Presidents and is most noted just for being a prime example of a 17th century house. It currently is a private residence and visitors can't go in it. You can still see the area where the house was hit by a cannonball... I could not find anything out about Thomas Sessions. I did discover the home is also known as the Shields house or the "Sessions-Pope-Shields House". I guess after subsequent owners.
