August 1987 Giant Turtle, Boissevain, Manitoba, Canada
We decided to try an area and cross into Canada just so Scott's Dad could say he's been to Canada... so we drove from the International Peace Gardens to Boissevain, Manitoba, Canada. Here, we saw this giant turtle. The 22-ft. tall fiberglass statue stands on rear legs and holds both a Canadian and American flag. It was built in 1974 in conjunction with Bossivain's Turtle Derby. There is now a museum near it, and it says "Welcome to the home of the Turtle Derby". Someone told me it marks the welcome to the Turtle Mountains as well. I don't know, but it was cute. Turtles are the thing I guess; see below for more giant turtle!
